1. On-Farm Nitrogen Fertilizer Demonstrations

The Magdoff Pre-Sidedress Nitrate Test (PSNT) has been successful 1y used in the Northeast and humid parts of Midwest to improve N fertilizer recommendations. A modified version of the Magdoff PSNT was evaluated in 1989 and 1990 in Michigan. Fifty-three large scale on-farm corn N demonstrations were carried out. Two rates of N (a reduced rate and a high rate) were rep1 icated 3 to 6 times in each field. Forty-six sites showed no significant (p=.05) yield reduction due to the reduce N rate. Forty-nine...

2. Effect of Starter Fertilizer and Plant Date on Soybean Growth, Nodulation, and Yield

Environmental conditions at the time of planting are a crucial determinant to soybean (Glycine max) yield potential. In recent years, it has become common in Ohio to begin planting earlier in the growing season, as soon as mid- or late-April in some cases. However, soil conditions are typically cooler and wetter at this time as opposed to later planting dates, and nutrient availability may be limited. When planting soybeans into cool and wet soil, the application of a starter fertilizer may be beneficial...

3. Effect of Phosphorus and Potassium Application on the Growth and Yield of a 14 Year Old Miscanthus X Giganteus Stand

Miscanthus x gigantues (miscanthus) is a perennial C4 grass grown for renewable bioenergy and bioproducts. Despite its known low nutrient requirements, the specific fertilization needs of miscanthus remain poorly constrained, especially for older stands. This study aims to guide nutrient management practices for miscanthus by determining the demand for phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) fertilization and identifying the soil testing values at which these nutrients optimize yields. To address this... A. Larson, E. Heaton, N. Boersma, J. Studt, S. Emran, M. Mcdaniel, A. Vanloocke
